Growing More Than Food: Anielka's Story

Anielka is a participant in the second group of Pathways to Prosperity's Vertical Garden Project and a leader in the Carrero sector of Calle Real de Tolapa. She is also an active participant at the community center. Through her garden, Anielka can grow fresh food right at home, providing nutritious produce for her family while reducing the amount her household needs to spend on food.

The gardens also give families an opportunity to produce food naturally, without harmful chemicals. This provides participants with greater confidence in the quality of the food they are feeding their families while encouraging healthier habits throughout the community.

In the photo, Anielka is pictured with her young daughter and nieces alongside Onal Martín Niño Meza, a second-year agricultural sciences student at UNAN-León. Onal supports the Vertical Garden Project and is also a scholarship recipient of the community center. His agricultural studies give him an opportunity to put what he is learning into practice while helping families like Anielka's develop their own gardens.

This is what makes the Vertical Garden Project so meaningful: it is not simply about providing a garden—it is about giving families the knowledge and tools to produce their own food, save money, improve their health, and become more self-reliant.
